Hey there!
My name is Lilliana Dunbar and I am the founder of The Connected Response. I am a child and adolescent therapist and former behavioral specialist. For years, I have worked directly with children and families navigating trauma, adoption, toxic stress, and complex developmental histories. In both clinical and behavioral settings, I have seen firsthand what happens when we shift from managing behaviors to understanding the nervous system underneath them.
My work centers on one core belief: all behavior makes sense. I am here to support you in translating those behaviors. When we prioritize regulation, attachment, and felt-safety, behavior changes — not through control, but through connection.
Why work with me?
My professional lens is shaped by three deeply intertwined perspectives:
Clinical Practice
As a therapist, I apply attachment theory, relational neuroscience, and trauma-informed care daily. I work with children experiencing intense and often confusing behaviors, helping families move from reactivity to regulation.
Behavioral Support Experience
As a former behavioral specialist, I understand traditional behavior management models — and where they break down for deeply feeling and trauma-impacted children. I also understand the real-world challenges educators, clinicians, and care providers face in high-intensity moments. My work bridges theory with practical, in-the-moment application.
Lived Experience
As a transracial and transnational adoptee, I bring lived understanding of identity, trauma, and systemic impact. This perspective informs how I approach adoption, foster care, and developmental trauma — both clinically and systemically.
Today, my work extends beyond individual families. I partner with parents, clinicians, educators, behavioral teams, and foster systems to integrate connection-based, regulation-focused frameworks into their practice.
My approach is rooted in:
-
Attachment theory
-
Relational neuroscience
-
Trauma-informed care
-
Connection-centered intervention
I translate complex clinical concepts into practical strategies that shift culture — not just individual behavior.
Because when children experience safety and connection, outcomes change.
